Columnea
Home Up Aeschynanthus Alsobias Chirita Codonanthe Columnea Episcia Kohleria Nematanthus Petrocosmea Miniature Gesneriads

More commonly known as the "goldfish plant", these vining gesneriads are easy to grow and bloom, and can be quite spectacular.  The long, tubular, "horned" blooms give the look of "flying fish".  Well grown plants can have 40-50 or more blooms at a tim.

Grow under lights or in windows.  Prefer slightly more light than do violets, though will bloom with less.  The plant shown at left was grown in both north and west-facing windows.
