Col. Early Bird

Very popular older variety well worth growing.  Yellow flowers with orange hood.  Medium green leaves with darker tips.  Graceful cascading habit, always covered in bloom.

Dependable bloomer

Ordered early bird years ago and was always a dependable bloomer but lost it so had to order it again it's a good one.

I am trying columneas under LED lights. So far Early Bird is growing well and is starting to bloom freely, a bright contrast to the nearby Streps. I am ready to try other varieties.

Blooms its head off

I always had a little trouble growing some small-leaved columneas like this one. Some people do fine, but the watering is a little tricky. Then I switched to self-watering with leca, and omg! This plant grows great that way and is never, ever out of bloom.

Beautiful plant, Lovely blooms

I love this plant. This came from Violet Barn as a baby 2-3 years ago and is hanging in the south-facing dining room windows along with Col. Janelle in separate pots. They are bright spots and demand attention from everyone who comes to the house. Both are always in bloom, but right now Col. Early Bird is outdoing itself. I can't even begin to count the blossoms they are so profuse. It is a graceful grower and a real charmer--definitely a show stopper. I can't ever walk by it without admiring it. I plan to put Columnea in every window. I just wish I had more windows!

I love them

I just ordered these and I can't wait to get them! I have gotten a few african violets from the violet barn already and they arrived in fantastic condition so i'm looking forward to these new early birds!
