Col. sanguinea

(formerly Dalbergaria sanguinea).  A large growing species with fuzzy, pale yellow blooms and calyces and thick, upright, spreading stems with hand-sized leaves.  Plant can grow 2-3 feet tall if allowed.  Easy grower, makes a nice display.

Surprisingly Easy

I just got this guy from my first order from Violet Barn. I'm a Geseneriad newbie, but I have found this plant surprisingly easy. It grows relatively quickly, and has handled any light I have tried it in. I hope this turns out to be one with red splotches on the leaves as it gets older - that's where the common name comes from, but not all individuals have them. The splotches form to help hummingbirds find the flowers.

My favorite 'other gesneriad'

I have been growing and showing this plant for years. It grows perfectly in all but the most dim window light and it never fails to garner attention from the judges. It is always in bloom and makes a unique specimen on a pedestal or in a basket.
