Wicking Potting Mix

12 quart box.  An extra coarse mix for wicking or self-watering pots.  A sterile, soilless, mix that we make ourselves.  Contains 40% sphagnum peat, 10% extra coarse vermiculite and 50% perlite, with wetting agent.  A "must" for constant-watering systems.  One box contains enough soil to repot approximately: 20 plants in 4" pots, 80 in 2.5"-3" pots, and 100 in 2.25" pots.  We suggest adding 1 part water to 4 parts soil the night before using--this will provide the proper moisture and consistency for easy potting.  Shipped postage-paid (shipping included in price).

The Only Potting Mix I Use

Moving my African violets to wicking pots was a game-changer for me, and this is the best wicking mix I’ve used. It maintains the perfect moisture level. Coupled with a diluted fertilizer, my mini violets are thriving. Even a 30+ year-old standard violet, which was one of my mother’s favorites and is still alive three decades later, has taken off and is producing larger and more abundant blooms than it ever did when it was young. It literally looks like a whole new plant! This is now the only potting mix that I use. Can’t recommend it enough. *Follow the directions and add one part water to four parts mix (the night before). It really does create the perfect consistency, making it easy to handle and preventing the soil from packing down later, when it becomes wet from the wick.

Wicking Violet Soil

Very happy with the wicking violet soil composition compared to other violet soils I purchased from other vendors. The mix is a quality product at a fair price. The quantity is a good amount for me to repot a number of self-watering pots of various sizes at one time.

Repeat customer!

Amazing soil. I don’t have many AVs and Streps but those I do love this soil.

Great soil!

I admit, I laughed when I opened the shipping box to discover a trash liner bag used for the soil. It caught me off-guard, but after opening the bag I get it. This is carefully hand crafted potting mix. It's light and airy, lots of perlite, vermiculite, detritus and peat. It sifts easily, uniform, easy to use and just all around gorgeous. I'm currently eyeing my other succulents because I'm fairly sure I would audibly hear my Pineapple plant sigh if I used this for it. Pricey, but worth it and you do get a lot for the money.

Convenient & Impressive Mix

I used to buy separate products and mix myself. It was never consistent or the right ratios. It's so much easier to just by this ready mix that works great.

The right stuff

My plants love this mix. I love my plants. I only have a dozen or so small pots. This box will last me a long while. (unless/until I start sharing it with my family who also loves AV) I highly recommend. Follow the directions to pre-wet the amount of material you need before use, and off you go.

Awesome soil!

Just received my wicking potting soil. I haven't been able to find African Violet locally and was pleased to find a wicking soil to use with my self watering pots.

Magic mix

I went online to research help for an overgrown/undernourished violet and was lucky enough to come across The Violet Barn's tutorials. In addition to saving that violet, the information sparked my new violet obsession. When I realized that my collection would be growing rapidly, I knew I'd need good soil to succeed, so I purchased this 12qt box (it goes a long ways). It's obvious this Wicking Mix has been perfected by pros. My new plants, old plants, and cuttings are absolutely thriving in it. Will need to order more soon. Thanks Rob and Ma!

The Best !!

This is absolutely the best wicking soil on the market, I bought a box in August of 2014 and still have a lot left, it just seems to be multiplying !! The mix is perfect and I reccomend it to anybody who is wick watering or thinking about watering by wick or matting !

Thanks

Thank you for creating a mix for self-watering. Just makes out "green thumb" a little greener. I transplanted all my plants and they are happy campers now.

Wicking Potting Mix

I am so happy to have this potting mix that is lighter for my self-watering pots. I never knew what the level of water should be in the reservoir and this will remove the guess work with no fear of over watering. So happy to have found the Violet Barn.
