Rob's Kalangadoo

Very unusual 'leaf chimera' with semimini trailing foliage.  Double orchid blooms with dark blue fantasty streaks.  Unique, dusting and streaking of gold on pointed green foliage.  A mutation of 'Rob's Galiwinku' but with variable variegated mottling of foliage.

Mystery Trailer Suprise

I received the Rob's Kalangadoo trailing violet has a mystery seller's pick last fall (2022). It is growing well (3 crowns), but slowly and did have a few small tight flowers. Currently, many more buds are developing and hopefully the plant will have a better display with age. The young leaves are dark green, small and pointed, no streaks or dusting of gold. The older, outer leaves are more yellow, but not as pictured in the photo.

Beautiful blooms and foliage!

Wowzers! What a beautiful trailer. I ordered a 'Mystery" trailer and this is what the VB chose for me. It arrived with 6 blooms and hasn't stopped blooming! The foliage is beautiful with pointed leaves dusted with gold flecks. Such a pretty combination.

Gorgeous blooms

I bought a mystery violet trailer for my birthday. I love this violet. It has bloomed continously for the last 4 months. This is extremely hardy. The blooms are gorgeous.

Gorgeous Leaves

This little trailer has really beautiful chimera leaves with white flecks. Mine has flowers that are more purple than pink but really pretty. One of my favorite trailers. Easy to grow.

Pretty perfection

I just recently received Rob’s Kalangadoo as a freebie and instantly fell in love. It is a tiny little plant and already loaded with tiny blooms of a lovely orchid color. You can’t go wrong with this trailer.

Amazing Plant

Received this plant and was amazed at how beautiful this plant was. The plant was a nice size and I appreciated the label on the pot. The packaging of this violet was done with care and hence arrived in better condition than some violets I buy at the store. Thank you Violet Barn. I will be ordering more.

Amazing trailer

This little trailer never quits blooming. At times it is hard to see the blooms. Hooked on VB plants.

Adorable Trailer

I've never seen an African Violet trailer (in person) until now. This is one adorable plant! I received it today, and it arrived in perfect condition. I couldn't hope for anything more wonderful, and I am very much looking forward to when it blooms. And almost forgot -- the foliage is really neat with the "dusting" of golden flecks.

Rob’s Kalangadoo DOES it for me!!!

I received this little beauty a few weeks ago, already budded. It is now covered with 23 flowers and buds, nearly obscuring the leaves! What a great choice; a definite ‘must have’

Pretty little blooms

This little one arrived in bloom and has been steadily in bloom since, the blossoms are prettier than the picture. Mine is a pastel pink at the moment with fantasy steaks, very pretty. This is one of a few of Robs trailers that I have gotten and all are beautiful.

Rob's Kalangadoo

This is the first trailer I ever purchased and I adore it. It is constantly blooming. The flowers and leaves are beautiful. It's one of my favorites in my miniature violet collection.

Easy to grow

Easy to grow with beautiful flowers. Stunning when it is in full bloom. Nice addition to any violet collection.

A strong, fascinating little plant

I had this plant for about a year before giving it to my daughter. Each leaf is a bit different which I really liked. They are thicker feeling than most trailer leaves which was another positive. The shape of the leaves is great and it grew dense and full. When this little one bloomed the color was gorgeous. The only thing was that, for me, it didn't bloom nearly as much or as heavily as my other trailers. I grow trailers for constant bloom so it got bumped down on my favorite list. I grow on light stands and may give this one another shot at some point just because of the other attributes. If the bloom is better at that point it will definitely be 5 star.

A pretty little plant

It was a freebie and did not expect too much. It is now blooming and becomes one of my favorite plants.

Pretty and unusual

This is a very unusual plant , the leaves aren't mosaic but not the usual variegation either , very pretty and the flowers are a pretty mauve pink and I have to say I order from Rob more than I do from any where else , my plants come in perfect shape , I don't think I have ever had even one broken leaf and he has such a good variety to choose from , must be why I can't stop ordering , 3 times so far this Spring :) A wonderful violet and other wonderful types of plants vender to buy from :)

Connie Schanfield May 12 2015, 10:17 AM

One of my faves

I have ordered 3 times over the years and I really love this one. Blooms a lot and the leaves are beautiful. I am ordering more today. Very easy to grow as well.

So Cute

I ordered this plant based on reviews of others and WOW am I glad I did. I just love the leaves on this little cutie! I am anxiously awaiting blooms but so far it has been a delight to grow.

Unusual leaves

I am fascinated by the leaves on this plant. They are so unusual - pointed and variegated. Almost thought it was not an African Violet. Looking forward to seeing it's blooms!

Alba Sequeira Oct 25 2013, 13:31 PM

a beautiful plant!

This is truly a beautiful plant. The leaves are small, profuse and tightly massed. They are the perfect backdrop for the small, profuse flowers. I am happy I took a chance and ordered this plant.

Gerard Klein Aug 05 2013, 12:54 PM

Reliable

I've had this semimini trailer for almost one year. It has grown quite a bit, and it's always in bloom. I'm using a 5" pan pot but will need to upgrade soon.

Tom Crabill May 04 2013, 10:48 AM

A Beauty!

I got Kalangadoo with my first order from Violet Barn. I was very pleasantly surprised with this plant. The chimera on the leaf clearly shows different texture as well as color! It came to me in bloom and is still blooming! It was my first order but most assuredly it won't be my last!

Irene Struse May 03 2013, 23:03 PM

Kanlangadoo review

I bought this in Detroit as I was fascinated with the leaves and wanted to test them. It is definitely a chimera, no doubt. All leaves produced solid green babies. The leaves are incredibly cool and this is the best part of the plant. It doesn't need to bloom to make me happy, every leaf is different. I does seem a tad picky though and is not one of the easier Rob's I have grown. I have move it to natural light as it doesn't seem to like my stands and it is doing much better. I give it five stars as I love the leaf patterns.

Best Robs trailer yet; get one!

5-star plant! This 2-star photo doesn't even begin to do it justice. Hopefully new photos will be added here in the near future. Kalangadoo is the most striking - and certainly the most unusual - "Rob's" trailer yet. Glowing mosaic foliage, double fantasy blooms, fast grower, perfect trailer...it's an absolute must-have. Foliage has well-defined gold and bright green variegation, reliably present on each leaf. Leaf margins are somewhat serrated and quite pointed, which makes for an unusual leaf shape, sometimes reminiscent of maple leaves. When backlit with early-morning light, foliage glows with bold mosaic variegation. The blooms have a light orchid background reliably streaked and marbled with blue fantasy, not the garish shade shown in this photo. Blooms compliment the foliage well and are in constant good supply. The plant grows quickly and makes new crowns readily. New crowns on mine have been produced densely and at ground level, thus requiring little to no grooming to fill a pot with well-mannered growth. Buds and blooms appear even on tiny new crowns. This is a very easy-growing trailer. This plant will make a hanging basket like no other. If you grow any trailers, or if you're a fan of mosaic foliage, or if you want a truly unique violet, don't miss this one. Just get it; you won't regret it!
