S diplotrichus punter #7

(formerly S diplotricha punter #7) One of our very favorites.  Bright silvery-lavender blue pansies over very dark, glossy, quilted, round foliage.  Small grower, heavy bloomer.

lovely foliage

First off, I'd like to say how great it is that the Violet Barn offers species violets. I have developed an interest in these and haven't found many of them from other growers. I got this about a year ago and it is very healthy looking. Unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to the description as a heavy bloomer for me. It has bloomed, but infrequently. No doubt that has to do more with my conditions than the plant. But the leaves are a lovely dark green, as shown in the picture. I guess I need to give it some bloom booster so I can enjoy the flowers!

Lovely and hardy

I've had success with St. Paulia Ionantha and S. diplotricha. I've not had success with a couple of other species. This plant, S. diplotricha, does seem to put up with growing conditions in my part of Texas, central TX. The humidity can be low and the temperatures high in the summer. I keep my thermostat at 80, and this lovely plant keeps producing very lovely light, lavender blooms. Unfortunately for me though, it does sprout multiple heads (not really suckers at the base but in the middle of the crown.) It keeps blooming though.

handsome species

The leaves are dark and ribbed, with long petioles that give the plant its wild look. My Saintpaulia diplotricha hasn’t stopped blooming since it arrived about six months ago. The blossom color is unusual: opalescent white with blue undertones. The light flowers contrast with the dark foliage. Easy grower. Prolific bloomer.
