Rob's Sticky Wicket

Average Rating 4.7 out of 5

Loved this little plant

Another positive review for this little trailer. It continued to bloom and grow well under artificial lights. In this location it continued to grow and grow, though never getting very big. I would recommend if you are looking for a trailing African violet.

Sticky Wicket—cute name and cute plant!

I purchased this little gem as part of a 5-pack over a year ago. It was slower to bloom than some of the others, but the flowers were worth the wait! The flowers are more of a light pink than fuchsia, which makes for a better contrast to the purples in my little “violet garden.” Another winner from Violet Barn!!

Love it

I bought this violet because I liked the name. But having it in my home, flowering profusely makes me happy. I love it! Plants usually grow for me just by looking at it, though somehow I kept killing all of the violets. But all I bought from violet barn is growing and flowering, quality makes a huge difference.

*note to my last review

In my review I mentioned that I grow Rob's Sticky Wicket under a glass dome...but, lest I mislead anyone wanting to try the same thing, I ought to have clarified that the dome is propped up at the base to allow adequate airflow. (The Violet Barn's April 2023 Violets Fun newsletter has a short article featuring care and propagation for this trailer that I found helpful, thanks.)

Extraordinary trailer

The description doesn't exaggerate. The most beautiful trailing AF foliage I have ever seen. I live in New England, so I was awed when the young (but very well developed, strong, healthy) Sticky Wicket plant I received from Violet Barn continued growing and blooming through late November, despite receiving less and less light in his spot in a north-facing window. By early-to-mid December, though, he just wasn't getting enough hours of daylight on the windowsill--I had to move him to a warmer location with artificial light until late February. Since I live in a building where the HVAC system runs constantly, the air in my home is on the dry side, so Sticky Wicket grows best for me under a glass dome.

Rob’s Sticky Wicket

I received this cute little mini trailer as a freebie. I can’t get over all the cutest blooms that I have right now as we speak. The color is so pretty of fuchsia reddish purple. Another great collection to have. Nancy Frankovich

Nothing but love for Sticky Wicket!!

I ordered Sticky Wicket to get my feet wet with trailers and boy have I fell hard for this little plant. It has bloomed since I received it and the form is just so pleasing !! I cannot wait to watch it grow and grow and grow!! The bloom color is a beautiful combo with the leaves. Can't go wrong with a Rob's even with a novice grower like me.

Rob's Sticky Wicket

Love this little mini trailer. It has the cutest blooms. So tiny. I am so happy I added this one to my collection.

Such a grower!

This one hasn’t bloomed for me yet, but it is putting on a ton of growth! Can’t wait to see it bloom!

Beautiful

Sticky Wicket about a month ago. Already blooming like crazy. Absolutely gorgeous.

2nd Stickey review

Maybe its me but I cannot get this trailer to bloom. I reviewed Stickey 6+ months ago and I have finally given up. Its growth habit , for me, is an extremely tight little ball. I tried thinning it out to get some light to the stems to help get it to bloom. Nothing. Not even a sign of a bloom. All 150 other SM and trailers are thriving except for maybe one other, Sailor Bill. I'm struggling with him as well but at least he is showing off a few blooms. I got 5 starts from Stickey to see if I have better luck with starting from scratch and propagating from the mother plant. Fingers X'd

Can’t get Sticky to bloom !

Out of the 90 miniature and trailing violets I’ve received from VB this little guy will not bloom for me. The Violet Barn “born on” date is 6/09/20 and I’ve had it for at least 3 months and this sucker will not throw a bud... It’s growing like a little tight shrub. I’ve looked in every nook and cranny in search of a bud but nothing. All of my other trailers and miniatures are blooming non stop or showing buds but not Sticky Wicket. Sticky is being very stubborn. Thus is the 3 *** rating. I’ll review again if Sticky decides to bloom for me.

Sticky Wicket

Received sticky wicket end of may. Still no flowers and very little growth. Has anyone had much like with this violet? Wish The Violet Barn would just replace it. Aren't the plants guaranteed? So far answer from customer service was not acceptable: give it more light; didn't work. Not too happy with The Violet Barn.

Easiest so far!

I love this trailer! As a beginner, it has brought me much encouragement as well as pleasure. It is easy to grow, and also to propagate. It was my first leaf ever to bloom . I highly recommend Sticky Wicket. Having grown up around cricket and the term 'sticky wicket', I was also drawn to its name. Nothing sticky about this one! It's a winner.

WhatTook MeSo LONG!

This was the first trailer that I fell for, but I lost the name. This weekend a club member entered it for "show and tell'. Ding, ding, ding - ordering it right away and can hardly wait!

Helen Grogan Aug 15 2020, 22:01 PM

So vigorous!

Since receiving it, this wonderful variety has started growing almost a dozen new crowns and is starting to form flower buds. The foliage with its red stems looks very elegant. I can’t wait till this one grows up!

Tiny little guy

Got this in the 5 plant deal. He's tiny but in great shape. Giving him a 5 because I am sure that once he gets going he will be as awesome as the plant description. Can't wait to see him take off.

Robs Sticky wicket

this plant was a prolific bloomer always covered in blooms from the time I got it. Unfortunately I lost it last summer during the hottest summer on record. I would encourage anyone to get her as she is well worth it.

WONDERFUL little trailer.

This was the first trailing violet I've ever purchased. It is easily my best bloomer of all my violets. It blooms constantly, not just a few blooms, but flowers everywhere, like in the product photo. The only difference between mine and the product pic is that my flowers have a bit more pink to them. I have had it for a couple of years on my bathroom windowsill in a 4-inch pot, and it's happy as can be, blooming away. I could move it to a bigger pot and I can tell it would grow larger, but the plant and I both seem quite happy with it there on the windowsill. I highly recommend this plant. It makes me happy whenever I look at it.

Excellent Trailing African Violet!

I have had Rob's Sticky Wicket since April, 2015. It has continued to grow and produce small pink flowers. It has never been out of bloom! I liked it so much, I also bought Rob's Waga Waga, which is also doing great! Rec'd July, 2015.

STICKY WICKET

Of all the trailing violets that I have, Sticky Wicket is my favorite. I love the graceful, airy form and the nice size and color of the blossoms. It likes to bloom, too! Beautiful!

Susan Burke May 17 2015, 14:18 PM

Great grower!

I got this one about a year ago and it is now in an 8 inch pan pot and spilling over the sides! Right after putting it in the pan pot I put it under a cloched and I could see it growing by the day! It's full and gorgeous! I have many mini trailers and this one grew the fastest by far! I just figure out how to wick the pan pot last week and the growth since has been phenominal!

Winner, Winner

I won my first blue ribbon with this plant!!

Anonymous Aug 23 2014, 13:03 PM

My fave!

I received this great trailer in my first Violet Barn order years ago and wouldn't want to be without it. Rob's Sticky Wicket truly deserves every award it's won. It grows perfectly on a windowsill or under lights and will make any grower look like a winner!

Debra palmer Apr 30 2014, 13:39 PM

Love this Trailer

Have only had this little trailer for one month and it has not stopped blooming. It is my first trailer, I have only had standards before this and I have fallen in love with this growth habit. Can't wait till it fills out with more foliage and more blooms like the mature plants pictured. Lovely!

Robs Sticky Wicket

Received this baby plant a few weeks ago.. It is lovely and already blooming. It arrived in perfect condition even in this high 90's weather. I am so impressed that I am now placing another order. Yes I am now a fan of Violet Barn!

Nancy Butterfield Aug 04 2012, 21:48 PM

Best Trailer

If you are only going to have one trailer, this is it! Wonderful growth habit and in only three weeks I had to move it into a larger pot. No wonder it was ranked so high for so many years.

Fred Bellairs Jan 03 2012, 20:28 PM

Excellent Showplant

Trails and suckers easily and grows fully in a rounded 'ball'. Can get exceptionally large if grown with the Japanese method. Mildew-resistant. Very hardy and naturally healthy. Flowers bloom abundantly and remain a long time without flower drop. One of the quickest growing of all the trailers.
